"The Democratization of Portraiture" Who gets to tell the stories of our nation’s history? Whose portraits are created and displayed and who has been erased? In this professional development workshop, participants will explore how works on paper differed from traditional oil paintings in terms of representing people from all walks of life. Looking at portraiture from historical moments, teachers will engage in close looking to analyze the artist’s choice of medium, intended audience, and representation. We'll close by discussing strategies for helping learners use their visual analytical skills to make connections between contemporary and historical events.
