DCPZ Educators Workshop with National Portrait Gallery: JusticexDesign and Portraiture

May 8 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm EDT

In this workshop, we’ll take a close look at recent acquisitions to the National Portrait Gallery’s collection, through the lens of the JusticexDesign framework and routines. In 1962, Congress established the National Portrait Gallery with the mandate to collect portraits of individuals who had significantly contributed to this country’s history, development, or culture. Yet the present has always shaped the museum’s assessment of who should be recognized. Over the past six decades, the Portrait Gallery has broadened the parameters of who it represents. We’ll consider the latest acquisitions, and ask without these additions to our permanent collection, what histories would be missing?

Note: this event is capped at 20 participants.
